This treatment was developed as both a cosmetic treatment for men & woman experiencing hair loss and a medical procedure to help conceal scars, burns, birthmarks and the full spectrum of alopecia. The pigments are specifically formulated for this procedure and are only deposited into the dermal layer of the scalp. That gives the illusion of a close buzz cut hairstyle on a bald head as it replicates follicles. The procedure can also be used as a density treatment to help make thinning hair appear thicker. 

Men & Woman are equally great candidates for SMP. If you are experiencing hair thinning SMP will add density to any length of hair as long as the natural hair is evenly thinning. Pattern balding, you may need to take your hair short. This can also happen around the crown and the hairline for both mean and woman. This can be a great solution for those with Alopecia Areata or Alopecia Totalis.

There is no downtime after your procedure. Your scalp will be a little red but you are able to work the next day. We do recommend that you wait at least 4 days before lightly sweating and keep your head out of direct sunlight. We will give you some basic guidelines to insure you are doing everything correct after your procedure. 

Surely this depends on each individuals pain tolerance but on average most people say about a 3/10. Some actually fall asleep and there is a few that are uncomfortable so we just take a bit more time! You can bring some ear phones and music if you wish. 

The cost of each individualized treatment will vary due to the customization each person will need. We do free consultations, book yours to get a quote. 

Any pigment applied to the dermal layer of the skin will eventually fade. With proper care and treatment including a high SPF sunscreen when outside, SMP will last many years. For a healthy client with a normal immune system, we expect that the color will last for about 4-6 years with gradual fading. Fortunately if a touch up is needed the fee is generally cheaper than the treatment fee. Each individual is different so longevity range will vary and be discussed in your consultation. 

The area of the treatment will be red for up to 24 hours following the treatment. This is less visible on darker skin tones. Over the next few days the pigmentation will be appear to become darker and then it will become lighter and softer as the pigment filled scabs begin to fade away. This will happen in the 3-10 days following treatment. By about 1 month after any treatment the pigments will begin to "set" and thereafter, fading will be almost zero.

No, we use a specially formulated ink that is custom created for Scalp Micro-pigmentation. It is not regular tattoo ink. There are no constituint colors in our ink so as a result there is no risk of the color turning blue or green. 

Yes, SMP can be removed with an electro-optic Q switched laser, which is used to heat and break up the pigmentation for easier absorption by phagocytes in the dermis. SMP is fairly easy to remove in most cases because the pigment is not deposited as deeply as normal tattoo ink. The pain level of having this removal procedure is 3-5/10. Most likely you would need a few treatments to get rid of the pigment. We currently do not have this machine to perform removals.
